I love this book. It is really engaging for children to read with the superhero element. It is so valuable to hear Might Owen’s own words and descriptions about his differences with the support of his family. We can learn a lot from Mighty Owen’s insights into how he describes, copes with and understands his body and emotions in challenging moments. It is a great tool for therapists, parents and teachers to use with children to educate them about their own differences or accepting those of their friends or peers. More awareness of differences works towards acceptance and understanding. This book plays a role in that. We need more like it!

The Adventures of Mighty Owen is a lovely reflection of the experiences of Owen and his family. It is also a fantastic resource for siblings, extended families, classmates and others supporting children with disability, to help understand the ongoing emotions and challenges experienced by those with disability.

Something you learn very quickly as a teacher is that every child is unique; they have different abilities, life experiences, family dynamics, upbringing, they develop at different rates and achieve milestones at different rates. Every child no matter their race, religion, family circumstances, abilities or additional needs can and will achieve success if we allow them to. A teacher’s job is to nurture every child. I want all students to feel safe in my classroom and want them to have dignity. Every student I have taught has taught me something but my students with additional needs have taught me to be patient, to be kind, to not be afraid of trying something new. Who knew these little humans, such as Owen, could teach me such MIGHTY lessons in life?

The Adventures Of Mighty Owen is an awesome book and not just because I know the author and illustrator. This book will not only benefit Owen to understand his journey but will help teachers explain to their students that we are all different. We teach our students that everyone is different, they have different skin colour, different religions, different shape bodies and different needs. This book will allow teachers to teach this in an engaging way, it’s bright colourful and the pictures are drawn by a child. A child has gone through and continues to go on this journey with the support of a loving family.

This book will also benefit families going through the same thing. Being able to explain to their families, especially children, that the journey will have its ups and downs, it’s laughs and tears but look at what comes out of it a MIGHTY boy or girl that has achieved success and milestones. How beautiful and amazing!

“The Mighty Owen Book is a well written and illustrated book that tells the tale of dealing with Autism and a Physical Disability from a child’s perspective. The author’s voice is genuine and sends a message of positive hope to all families of children dealing with having a disability. “

“As a teacher of children with Additional Needs this book is highly recommended and valuable for advocating for the understanding of students with Additional Needs. The playful way the narrative presents some difficult situations can provide a fresh perspective for families dealing with similar issues. Children can feel so isolated and that they are the only one in the world with challenges. Looking forward to the next book! “

Showing little humans what bravery and kindness looks like in their world can be hard. The Adventures of Mighty Owen so brilliantly engages kids with its fun characters and illustrations but it’s real genius is how it opens a conversation about how our challenges and differences can be turned into “mighty powers” when we learn to embrace and celebrate them!
